The Rape of Proserpina
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ This image shows a statue created by medieval Roman artist Bernini; called The Rape of Proserpina . Based on a hymn to Demeter by Homer; A story about Demeter experiencing the loss of her daughter, Persephone, as she is taken from her by Ruler of the Underworld, Hades. Hades, tricking Persephone with a flower that she plucked from the ground making it crumble underneath her, whisks her off in his chariot, taking her to be his bride. This statue shows a point in the story where Hades captures Persephone from her in the meadow. I enjoy looking at Bernini's work, one that I like in particular is based on the myth of Apollo and Daphne. His work is quite beautiful and a lot of it often looks so realistic with all of the details that he takes into account. However, in the case of this piece of work, his attention to detail and realism, I feel, makes this statue almost scary.
