Visual literacy.

To me, visual awareness seems to be the analysis of an image. Basically analyzing them the same way we analyze texts for their meanings. The technique can be used for many different forms of imagery such as, advertisement, art, posters, videos, and journalistic photography. Many things are needed to be taken into account when analyzing an image, just like when analyzing a piece of text; such as the time and place that the image is showing, the ideals of the person who created it, any words or narratives that accompany it, and more.

Evaluating images requires not only taking into account what is there or the context it was taken in, but the small things as well like lighting, framing, angling, etc. As these images are used to get the author's point across, they can also often be tampered with or edit. Images can even be staged, showing an event that was created by the author, instead of a moment in time that happened naturally.

When it comes to analyzing visual pieces of media, everything is there for a reason from the blurring of the background, to the colors being shown. The different forms of visual media have different ways that it can be analyzed. Depending on the the type of imagery it is, the context of it and how it can play a part in the meaning of the visual. Everything plays a part in telling the story that they author wants to give.
